It’s a beautiful day!

Don’t let it go to waste! And thanks to U2 for those wonderful words of inspiration to get our rears in gear, we sure haven’t let these wonderful sunny days go to waste! Spring is in the air here in Columbus and as a part of our spring cleaning, we I also freshened up some decor around the house. Starting with this lovely yarn wreath…

My initial inspiration for this came from my friend Lauren, over at The Thinking Closet who posted this craft a couple of weeks back and I fell in love with the idea of creating a new fabric wreath from some old scraps of fabric and an old wreath. You guys should seriously check out Lauren’s blog, its cheerful, full of love, and is always a crafty good time!

Anyway, back to our wreath rehab. This bad boy has lived in our dining room/kitchen since Josh moved in more than a year ago, back when yarn wreaths were still in style (I know, I know, I’m clearly not the most fashionable one here). But lately I’ve been feeling that it looked a little lack luster, the green on green just wasn’t working for me anymore. My work was cut out for me.

I removed the yarn from the wreath form easily enough. Cutting it off was the best way to remove the yarn, since it had gotten kind of dusty in the year that it’s been hanging out so it was best to just pitch it and be done with it.

From there, I just followed Lauren’s instructions- using strips of fabric to wrap around the wreath form. Although I opted to pin the fabric to the wreath form since mine was made of Styrofoam and I was afraid that I would melt it with the hot glue gun.

I then added the “A” from our original wreath with my hot glue gun. This was more of a sentimental decision than a design decision- since we put this wreath up in the house the day that Josh moved in, I’ve grown accustomed to having it there, the first letter of our last name.

I then took my second piece of fabric and made a bunch of different sized rosettes to place in groups around the wreath. There is a great tutorial here on how to make them that I used when learning how to create fabric rosettes. Once those were all added to the wreath with the hot glue gun, I was able to hang it up and admire our new wreath-

Not too shabby I think. I like the wrinkles and creases the fabric makes when wrapped around the wreath form. Shabby chic. The rosettes are a cute addition to, it gives it more of a feminine touch if you ask me. I think I’ll add more rosettes down the road, as soon as I pick up more glue for my hot glue gun…

I even like the way it looks from the street- it kind of screams “Hey! A crafter lives here!” and I kind of, sort of love that about it. Overall, it’s a nice addition to the house, and I think it’ll be even better once the tulips bloom here in a couple of weeks! Let’s take another look at this bad boy-
